Who Are We?
Welcome to Janet Gow Photography Training Courses, a hub of photography expertise and creativity. My name is Jan and I have poured over 15 years of passion and dedication into the wedding photography industry. My love of photography started as a child and I consider myself really lucky to do a job that I love and that allows me a creative output. The goal of my training courses is to provide a non-judgemental, friendly and fun environment to learn the details of wedding photography.
I’m not doing this venture alone, I'm thrilled to be joined by Adam Jones from West 70 Photography in Bristol, who brings his own wealth of experience with wedding photography to the table. Our collaboration forms a dynamic duo (we’ve been called far worse!) that allows for a casual but enriching training environment. We want Janet Gow Photography Training Courses to be a sociaible, no-judgement environment where photographers of all skill levels can come along and learn something - no matter if you’re an absolute beginner or a seasoned pro. With Jan and Adam both offering unique insights and a shared love to imparting knowledge (both what to do and what not to do!) to help you become a better wedding photographer.
Training courses can be a serious business (we’ve attended plenty of them elsewhere to know this is true). We want to make sure our training courses still provide all the insight you’d expect, but in a lighthearted, candid and open forum. We’ve got some brilliant stories to share, always with something to learn from them, and we want our courses to feel like you’re talking with friends.
But we're not on this photography training journey alone. Far from it. We've lined up an exciting roster of inspiring guest speakers, each an expert in their own right, ready to share their speciality techniques, tips and training and enrich your understanding of wedding photography and ultimately make you a better photographer.
Why Train With Us?
As many people know with photography, knowledge is key. Adam, once a student of Jan’s, is a great example of the power of proper training. Adam met Jan when working as a videographer, with no formal qualifications in photography. He would proudly call himself an absolute beginner. He was taught by Jan starting with the basics and learning everything, not just technical knowledge, but knowledge about how a wedding day runs as a photographer. Technical knowledge is one thing, but it’s only one part of being a good wedding photographer. There’s much more to it than knowing your camera settings (but this always helps!).
We’re ready to share our process with you. Through years of honing our craft, through trial and error, as well as our own training and learning, we’ve achieved a shared belief that a great training course should spark something within you. We want you to leave feeling not just informed, but empowered and eager to unleash your newfound skills
.
Technical training is often touted online, and we’re definitely going to be covering that in-depth, but where our training courses differ is we want to tell you about the human element of being a wedding photographer. It’s often overlooked (or ignored completely) and it’s a huge part of what can make or break a wedding photography business. We’re here, with our own years of personal experience, to share this knowledge with you and to create a community of photographers who can be there for one another. We’ve all met the photographer who wants to posture and tell you how busy they are, how much money they make, how you’re not charging enough - good for them. We’re not those kind of photographers - we think that the key to success is through training and community with other photographers.
Our training approach is straightforward and sincere. We want every delegate to have their own 'aha' moment and leave the training sessions fired up with a new found sense of confidence and enthusiasm for wedding photography. We are keen to foster an environment where all questions are welcomed, and no one feels inadequate for seeking knowledge. Our training courses are not for showing off or flexing proverbial muscles, they’re for learning and becoming a better wedding photographer.
What Will You Learn?
I won't shy away from admitting that, in my early ventures, I stumbled and fell, sometimes quite expensively. My journey has been marked by valuable mistakes that have shaped my expertise. I may not have known it at the time, but these pitfalls made me a better photographer. Our training isn't just theoretical; it's a practical guide drawn from years of experience, sometimes challenging experience.
You'll learn insights and tips that make your own wedding photography journey smoother, avoiding the nonsense and headed for success.
We’ll cover a wide variety of subjects including, but not limited to, technical training, camera equipment, customer service, how a wedding day runs, how to secure a customer and how to be the best wedding photographer you can be.
Our theory sessions are packed with these invaluable nuggets, creating a supportive atmosphere where no question is too small or too basic. Janet Gow Photography Training is simply put a place where you're encouraged to learn, without any shadows of self-doubt.
